Get back on the tools: tradies and back pain

Tradies and lower back pain

One in every 10 Australian workers is a tradie, and one in four of them fear they will have to retire early because of stress on their bodies.

Tradespeople including builders, electricians and plumbers perform physically demanding tasks daily. Repeated lifting, bending, twisting and long periods working in awkward positions can take a toll on the body, especially the lower back.

Tradies are at a higher risk of developing musculoskeletal injuries compared to other professions, with lower back pain being one of the most common complaints.

During National Tradies Health Month in August, it’s important to shine a light on an issue that disproportionately affects our hard-working tradespeople.

Lower back pain stands out for both its prevalence and impact on tradies, often resulting in significant time away from work.

There is some good news though. The 2024 Tradies National Health Month Survey from the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) reports that nearly two in three tradies who consulted a physiotherapist experienced a significant reduction in, or eradication of their pain.

getback™ physiotherapy specialises in targeted treatment plans that specifically target the needs of tradespeople. The getback approach focuses on both relieving existing pain in the short term and long-term prevention of recurrence.

getback™ treatment plans combine manual therapy and individualised exercise programs.

Manual therapy targets the affected muscles and joints directly to alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Targeted and measurable exercise therapy mobilises and strengthens the spine’s deep supporting muscles to enhance stability in the back.

getback™ offers a comprehensive solution for tradespeople dealing with lower back conditions. With individualised treatment plans offering both pain relief and increased resilience against future problems, getback helps tradespeople stay healthy, pain-free and productive in their demanding work.
