Tackling back pain in the Bay Area

After studying biomechanics, exercise science, kinesiology and medical anthropology and with 30 years of training and experience, Janani English has a wide-ranging therapeutic perspective. But she was ‘blown away’ when she came across the David Health technology (as used by getback).

At the Shreem Supreme Spine Center in the San Francisco Bay Area, manual and exercise therapies provide a holistic approach to pain management.

Owner Janani English, PhD MMT focuses on creating an individualised treatment approach with each patient. She is a Medical Manual Therapist and registered Yoga Therapist and the center offers a wide range of therapies including medical exercise therapy, active rehabilitation, Ayurvedic massage and therapy, yoga therapy, craniosacral therapy and neuromuscular release.

The center’s patient flow ranges from chronic pain patients to traumatic injury patients and a combination of these therapies is utilised based on the patient’s needs and rehabilitation goals.

‘I see patients of all types,’ Janani explains. ‘For example, there are pre- and post-surgical patients and a lot of people suffering from chronic pain.

‘I also treat people with traumatic injury, brain injury, and migraines.’

Janna recently added David spine devices (the same devices used by getback) to help treat a range of back pain complaints from chronic pain to traumatic injury.

She was first introduced to the David technology at an exhibition in Texas.

‘I was blown away with the David equipment when I first saw it,’ she says.

‘For spine health, the devices provide a unique way of strengthening muscles.

‘This cannot be replicated with other therapies.’

Utilising David’s G110 and G120 Spine devices, Janani creates individual medical exercise programmes for patients to mobilise and strengthen their deep spinal muscles.

The devices precisely control important exercise parameters such as weight resistance, speed, range of motion and number of repetitions.

The devices also provide continual feedback to ensure patients exercise within their prescribed safe range, and measure the strength and flexibility of the spinal muscles for review throughout the program.
